Japan Disaster Affect Daihatsu Production

The President Director of PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) Sudirman Maman Rusdi said, Daihatsu production capacity will be decreased about 10% on quarter II/2011 compared to the previous quarter.

Although not yet able to say how much production capacity during the first quarter, but Sudirman ensure that production in May 2011 will reach up to 28 000 units, or an increase from the previous month that only 23,000 units.

According to Sudirman, Daihatsu's production capacity is declining, triggered by the lack of supply of vehicle parts from the disaster that occurred in Japan. Daihatsu, he said, also not get a supply of components from other countries, both China and Korea. "We also have not received assurance from the Japanese after the becana, but the trend of supply is getting better," said Sudirman in Jakarta.

Sudirman hope, that condition will be improved on quarter III/2011. Therefore, he said, Daihatsu has not revised its sales target for this year which amounted to 125,000 units, an increase from last year's 116,000 units. "There has been no revision of sales targets, we are still waiting for the quarter III/2011 supply conditions," he said.

Meanwhile, President Commissioner of PT Di Successful International Tbk Soebroto Laras said, lack of supply of components from Japan especially for automotif vehicle that a high-tech, such as the micro chip, it is still dormant.

However, he said, the condition does not have much effect on the production and sale of Suzuki in Indonesia. The reason, he said, a lot of Suzuki cars purchased in the country is cheaper for the class and has a local component level up to 90%, such as APV.

"We're still in luck because the cars were sold here are made in Indonesia, such as APV, while high technology cars such as the Vitara is much lower," said Soebronto.

The Director General of the Ministry of Higher Teknomogi Commodity-Based Industry Budi Darmadi said the government remains optimistic about the growth of the automobile industry this year will be on target.

"I am optimistic it could reach 8%, maybe even more," said Budi. According to Budi, a number of principals the vehicles it had experienced a decline in production. But this time, he said, had started to operate normally because the supply of spare parts has got a replacement.

"Like the Daihatsu, just one last month just come down this month has increased again," he said. Budi said, the lack of supply of components from Japan, can be overcome by using supplies from other countries. "Like from Korea, China, Taiwan and parts of Malaysia," he said.

However, Budi added, to get a replacement automotive components, the principal takes about 1-2 months to do the testing and matching of parts. "If it is deemed appropriate and can be used will be back to normal production," lid Budi.

Chairman of the First Joint Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) Jongkie D Sugiharto said, it's not easy to get replacement automotive components. "Technically it is difficult, takes time and adjustment," said Jongkie. Thus, Jongkie hope, the situation in Japan could soon recover so that the supply of the vehicle can return to normal.
